Corporate Hangar – Concord, New Hampshire
Brought on as the Engineer of Record (EOR), Artisan Engineering provided general design oversight of the wood framing as well as full foundation design for this corporate hanger. Working together with Silver Maple Construction as the General Contractor and Art Massif as the Mass Timber Consultant, the results produced North American’s first net-zero corporate airplane hangar. This approximately 36,000 sf hangar boasts 42ft tall glulam columns supporting 210ft clear span by 30ft deep trusses. Each truss is composed of curved glulam top chords and tube-steel bottom cords. Each truss weighed approximately 50,000 lbs. Glulam chevron braces make up the lateral force resisting system. Two free standing, cantilevered doors provide aircraft access. The larger of which weighs approximately 60,000 lbs and is 120ft x 30ft; the largest freestanding cantilever door that the manufacturer had produced at the time. Another unique feature is the integration of the first code-compliant private building to use Safespill, a fire-suppression system that removes spilled jet fuel into trenches instead of using fire-fighting foam.
